Merchants of Change is proud contributor to the crowd funded Injalak Arts Thong project.  There are three styles designed by Injalak Arts,  100% wholly Aboriginal owned non-profit artist cooperative based in Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) in the Nothern Territory of Australia, and co-produced with Etiko Australia.

Made from a blend of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified natural and recycled rubber in Sri Lanka. These are the most comfortable thongs / flip flops / jandals you can buy!
Unisex. Non-toxic, fair trade thongs. Unbelievably comfortable.
Made from: Recycled and new rubber - none of that icky PVC/EVA stuff the big name brands use.
Original design: Long-necked turtle design by Isaiah Nagurrgurrba

Isaiah is an artist and screenprinter who was among the founders of Injalak Arts in 1989. He is animated, a great raconteur, and his sense of humour and style is evident in his paintings. The artist’s country is Marlkawo which is south east of Gunbalanya and his major Djang or dreaming story is Yawkyawk or female water spirits.

Every year, in the seasons Kunwinjku people call Yekke, Wurrkeng and Kurrung, ladies go out onto the floodplain to get ngalmangiyi (long-neckedturtles, Chelodina rugosa).
